Radical Nephrectomy vs Partial Nephrectomy
As presented by Huang, et al., patients that receive a Radical Nephrectomy have a 5-yr survival rate of 38% less than their peers having undergone a Partial Nephrectomy instead. These patients are also 1.4x more likely to experience a cardiac event such as a stroke or heart attack. Radical Nephrectomy patients also experience much higher rates of Renal Insufficiency or Renal Failure, being on dialysis, and taking numerous adjuvant drug therapies.[2,3] For these reasons, both the American Urologic Association (AUA) and the European Association of Urology (EAU) recommend the use of Partial Nephrectomy whenever feasible.[4,5]
